5 Reasons to Visit Disney World in September

It’s always a great time for a Disney vacation! But when people ask me when the best time to visit the parks is, I know what they’re really asking is “when is the cheapest time to go with relatively low crowds?” If you’re looking for a trip in the fall, September is the best! If you’re looking for a time in the winter, February is best. You can read more about February here. But let’s talk September!

1. Low Cost

I think 2019 might be the except to this because Star Wars opens August 29th, but normally both hotel prices and ticket prices are a little less expensive in September than other months. No holidays and no school breaks means demand is down which means prices are lower. Mid week is cheaper than weekends, but it’s all cheaper than the summer months and the winter holidays.

2. Low Crowds

Between back-to-school and hurricane season, the crowds are usually pretty low in September. Again, 2019 might be the except because of Star Wars, but I’d just avoid Hollywood Studios and I think you’ll avoid most of the craziness. There isn’t really a “not busy” time at Disney anymore but September is definitely less busy.

3. Great Weather (usually)

Other than the chance of hurricanes, the weather is still hot but not brutal like July and August. You can still enjoy a water park and the hotel pool, but you won’t be quite as miserable as those summer months.

4. Halloween Party

The Halloween party this year begins in late August and runs through Halloween night. September is the the best time to go! Enjoy all those decorations and the Halloween party nights without all those crowds. Read more about the Halloween party here.

5. Food & Wine Festival

This is the real reason to go to Disney in September. Food & Wine Festival at Epcot is incredible! You can read more about it here, but the short and sweet version is this: enjoy unique food and delicious adult beverages at food stands throughout the World Showcase in Epcot.

“But Justine… what about HURRICANES?” My best advice is to get travel insurance. It’s a little less than $80 per person and totally covers you if your flight gets delayed or you have to reschedule your trip completely. It’ll take away some of the stress of traveling during hurricane season.
