Why Create a Disney Honeymoon Registry? – How it works, why it’s a great tool and more!

The Disney Honeymoon Registry is the perfect thing if you’re thinking about a Disney Honeymoon. Let me start this off with a quick OMG YES! Congratulations on your engagement. Good luck with your wedding planning. And GREAT honeymoon decision! Alex and I went to Disney World for 10 days for our honeymoon back in 2017 and it was the most incredible experience. I wish we could do a honeymoon style trip every year.

One of the best decisions we made was creating a Disney Honeymoon Registry. We had already been living together for a few years when we got married, so we had a lot of the normal house things you usually get as wedding gifts. Of course we still created a traditional registry too, but our family and friends really enjoyed being able to help us create a magical and memorable honeymoon. And buying a Turkey Leg at Epcot for Alex to eat sounds like a lot more fun than buying us a cork screw or hand towels.

So how does it work?

The Disney Honeymoon registry is really easy to use. You set it up by creating an account and selecting the experiences you’d like people to be able to purchase for you. We chose things like Theme Park Snacks and Theme Park Tickets and then more unique experiences like a carriage ride and an in room celebration.

Your guests will go into your registry website and select what they’d like to purchase from a list you’ve registered for. But all they’re really doing is giving you the cash. For instance, we had a friend purchase a Surry Bike Rental for us. But it didn’t book the bike rental. We simply registered for a Surry Bike Rental with a dollar amount that would cover the 2 person bike we wanted for an hour. Then once someone bought it for us, we got the cash deposited into our bank account and could book it once we got to Disney (other things we booked in advance, but not the bike rental).

It’s just a cash exchange really. But it adds a layer of excitement and joy for people to see what you want to do on your honeymoon and help you fund it! You can transfer the money from the registry to your bank account three times during the life of your registry. We did it once about a month before the honeymoon when final payment for our vacation package was due, and then again on day 2 of our honeymoon so those procrastinators could still buy us something (we have some really “late to the party” friends, but we love them!).

Turns out our registry from 2017 is still around so if you want to check it out, you can! You can even read some comments from our friends and family at the bottom.

Is the registry only for Disney World?

Nope! You can create a Disney registry for Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, Aulani (Hawaii), Vero Beach and Hilton Head Island. The registry options are based on your destination. You can see sample registries for all of the destination options here.

Are there fees for using the registry?

Just like everything in life and in Disney, there’s a cost associated with the registry. Disney keeps a percentage of each gift, so the couple never pays money, but rather money is taken from the giver’s gift. For instance, we had someone give us $25 in Fantasy Funds (just fun money) and Disney kept 7% (that was the going rate in 2017, I’m not sure if it’s changed), depositing $23.25 into our bank account when we requested that transfer.

The registry is for everyone!

Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, a wedding, a vow renewal or an epic anniversary trip, the Disney Honeymoon Registry is a great tool to use! It doesn’t matter the occasion, if you’re family and friends want to help you get to Disney, the registry is for you. Even if you don’t live in the United States, you can still use the registry!

Can I use the registry and a travel agent?

You sure can! Once someone purchases an experience for you, just let me know! I’ll be the one to book the experience and we can pay with the funds from your registry. The easiest way is to transfer the cash to your bank account and purchase some Disney gift cards to pay off your vacation with.
