Let’s Talk About the new Genie Service
Have you heard about the new Genie Service coming to Walt Disney World later this month (October 2021)? Let’s talk about this new service! There are three tiers and honestly, it is rather overwhelming. It’s a big change to the old Fastpass+ system. I think it’s going to change the way many people do Disney World, and that’s okay! The parks will still be magical.

Let’s Talk Disney Genie
The first tier of this new service is Disney Genie. This is a free service for all guests with park tickets. If you’re looking for an itinerary, wait times, mobile ordering for quick service restaurants, virtual queues, and more, this will be the place to go. Disney Genie will be available via the My Disney Experience app.
Let’s Talk Disney Genie+
The second tier is Disney Genie+ which is $15 per day per person and allows you to skip the stand-by line for certain rides, once per ride. This is basically the new FastPass+. You can add Genie+ to your vacation package so it’s all pre-paid for the length of your park tickets, or you can add it one day at a time while on your vacation. So if you only want Genie+ for one park, you can add it the morning you plan to head to that park. Fastpass+ entrances have been renamed Lightning Lanes and this is where you’ll enter the ride at your Genie+ assigned time.
You can make one Genie+ reservation at a time or every 2 hours. Let’s say for example you make a Genie+ reservation for Haunted Mansion and the time you have is at 1pm, but it’s currently 10am. At 12pm you’ll be able to make another reservation. On the other hand, if you make a Genie+ reservation and your return time is 11:50 but it’s currently 10am, you won’t be able to make another Genie+ reservation until you ride Haunted Mansion in that 11:50 window.
You can begin making Genie+ reservations at 7 am the day of your park visit if you’re staying at a Disney World resort. If you stay off property, you can make reservations at the time of the park opening. Unfortunately, as your travel agent, I won’t be able to make these for you.
The photo below shows a list of all the rides that are available with Genie+ and the handful of rides that are part of the Individual Attraction Selection/Lightning Lane additional cost. The rides in purple are included in the $15 per person per day charge. The rides in blue will have an additional cost. I’ll explain that next!
Let’s Talk Individual Attraction Selection/Lightning Lane
This third tier of the new service is basically premium Fastpass+. You have to pay a little more money to get on the most popular rides without waiting in line. You DO NOT need to pay for Genie+ to have access to Individual Lightning Lane rides. These rides will cost between $7 and $15 per person for one ride. Prices will vary by date, just like park tickets. Pricing will be listed on the app so you can see it before confirming your purchase. These will also be available beginning at 7 am on the day of your park visit if staying on property, or at the time of park opening if staying off-site. You can purchase these top-tier reservations for multiple parks on the same day if you have Park Hopper tickets. These selections are limited to two per guest per day.
